Tillandsia raackii

$55.00
( 2 Reviews )

This species from Ecuador was published in 1991 by Harry Luther and named after the avid plant collector, Jerry Raack.  One may think that it is a Vriesea species as its foliage and spike are more reminiscent of a Vriesea than Tillandsia.  The wine colored foliage which sometimes will have spotting on the upper surfaces, has a waxy-powdery patina which contrasts beautifully with the white inflorescence. A very short scape will hold 3 - 7 flat, white spikes with white flowers.  Habitat is at 1900 meters and therefore prefers slightly cooler temperatures. Will produce 1 - 2 offsets. Rare in collections.

Interesting

Got it in good condition. My first challenge. Seems not to be easy to grow here around Tokyo. I'll try my best.
