This odd looking bromeliad was thought to be an Aechmea. It is from El Tuito, Jalisco and found growing on rocks in an oak and pine forest. It has thick succulent leaves which turn red in strong light. The inflorescence is up to 24 inches tall and covered with white scurf and pink bracts. The petals are purple and Billbergia like.
