True species, from Jalisco, Mexico.  The branches on the inflorescence  are elongated and inflated and develop red to pale green coloration.  Medium purple colored flowers. They can produce a single inflated spike or as many as 5-6 inflated branches on the spike. Through many years of cultivating and tracking the number of branches, we can now predict how many branches to expect. Sometimes an offset will bloom when immature and will not produce as many branches as the mother plant. But if allow to grow to a large plant it can produce more branches.
