This species was wild collected near the town of Temascal in Oaxaca, Mexico. It is related to the the T. capitata group, but has been registered with the cultivar name which represents where it was found. It has narrow thick, almost succulent like leaves which when grown in bright light turn dark wine-red. It has purple petals.
