Tillandsia kruseana was described by Matuda in 1974. In 1984 it was made a synonym of Tillandsia xerographica by Gardner. It most resembles Tillandsia tomaselllii, another synonym of T. xerographica. We keep these separated by geographic location. Tillandsia kruesana grows in north western Oaxaca near Guerrero.

Ii has long silver-white leaves and will blush pinkish when blooming. The tall inflorescence develops strong yellow and red-orange color.
