Previously known as T. ionantha var. "Huemelula" or T. "Huamelula", it was finally published as a unique species - Tillandsia maxima. Related to Tillandsia ionantha, this species grows very large and will turn red when blooming. It is from the Southern state of Oaxaca in Mexico. Ours are all propagated from offsets of the real one. There are some in cultivation that are not the real species.
